Government approves relaxation of some business laws

The government on 15 February approved business-friendly amendments to the Freedom of Economic Activity Act and some other laws.

Three changes are particularly important. One gives companies more freedom in suspending their activities. Until now, the minimum suspension period is one month. Under the amended law, companies will be free to suspend activities for a specified number of days or months; furthermore, firms which operate under several legal entities will be able to suspend the activities of just one (or more) of them, but not necessarily all, as now.

Another change concerns the Central Register and Information on Economic Activity (CEIDG), which is to be launched in July. It simplifies the registration procedure by allowing entrepreneurs to self-register with the system and choose the preferred form of taxation online (or at their tax office or local authority); it also makes it possible for the entrepreneur to select a later date for the start of activity (at present it is the same as the date of registration).

Finally, there will be specific deadlines for public authorities to provide requested information to the business point-of-contact (a website with information about practical and legal aspects of doing business), which will speed up the whole process (at the moment officials are merely required to provide the requested information “as soon as possible”).
