Intrall takes further step to locate car plant in Poland

International Truck Alliance (Intrall), a Russian car maker, has signed a letter of intent with the authorities of the Zachodniopomorskie voivodship and the Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ) about a project to build a car plant in Northwestern Poland, with R&D and assembly facilities, Puls Biznesu reported. According to information obtained by the newspaper, the estimated value of the investment is about €20m, i.e. lower than initially indicated. Full details are to be unveiled by the end of next month. Despite earlier indications that it might locate the plant at the former Szczecin shipyard, Intrall is now reportedly inclined towards a greenfield investment.

In the words of Intel Rus CEO Anatoliy Leyrich, quoted by Puls Biznesu, the investment will be realised in two phases. First, an engineering R&D centre will be opened with a staff of 50, which will work on prototypes. Subsequently an assembly plant will be erected that will put out a limited number (2,500-5,000) of cars a year, employing 500-550 people.

The Polish plant will support Intrall’s new, PLN 1bn (€258m) factory of trucks and off-roaders in Stavropol in Southern Russia.
