Thai group gets anti-trust clearance for takeover of Polish PET maker

The Office of Competition and Consumer Protection (UOKiK) has given the go-ahead for Indorama Ventures PCL, the world’s second biggest manufacturer of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), to acquire SK Eurochem, a Polish PET maker based in Wloclawek (Kujawsko-Pomorskie voivodship).

The selling party was SK Chemicals, a South Korean chemicals group that owns nearly 63% of SK Eurochem. Its other shareholders are Anwil (a unit of PKN Orlen), LG and the EBRD.

SK Eurochem has manufacturing capacity of 140,000 tons per year and claims to be the only PET maker in Poland. The deal is to give Indorama access to an important emerging market with high long-term potential for demand.
