Chevron to start prospecting for gas in Lubelskie in Q4

Chevron, the second largest oil company in the US, has appointed Nafta Pila, a subsidiary of state gas group PGNiG, to conduct onshore drilling at its unconventional gas prospect in the Lubelskie voivodship. The drilling programme will involve several wells and is due to commence in the fourth quarter of the year.

In December 2009 Chevron obtained a five-year license to prospect gas deposits in the Zamosc area. The deposits are contained in slate rocks. The US firm has considerable experience in extracting gas from such sites, as slate rocks currently contribute one third of gas production in the US and are projected to account for 50% by 2020.
