One-stop-shop for starting up as self-employed?

The Ministry of Finance has drawn up legislation that would make it significantly easier for would-be entrepreneurs to start up as self-employed, by shifting the procedure from local authorities to tax offices, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna has learnt.

The change, expected to become law on 1 July, would give reality to the government’s pledge of a one-stop-shop for starting up a small business, after a similar reform enacted in 2009 failed to achieve its stated objective. Although it spares would-be entrepreneurs the need to register separately for tax, social insurance and statistical purposes, the amended procedure still involves time-consuming correspondence between local authorities and tax offices, and in many cases requires applicants to visit their tax office.
