New investments at KSSE to reach PLN 1bn in 2011

The Katowice Special Economic Zone (KSSE) expects to finalise 25-30 new investment projects worth approx. PLN 1bn (€256m) in 2011 and resulting in the creation of about 1,000 new jobs, the zone’s president Piotr Wojaczek told Polish Press Agency. The KSSE is thus aiming for a result comparable to last year, when it attracted 23 new projects worth PLN 0.83-1.1bn (€213-282m) and expected to create over 900 jobs.

According to Mr. Wojaczek, some 40% of the new projects will be reinvestments from companies already present in the zone.

In 2010 the KSSE saw the addition of about 3,000 new jobs, thanks both to new factory openings and new hires. As a result, employment in the zone returned to its levels before 2009, when the automotive sector suffered the lowest point of its slump (the car industry accounts for 30% of all investors and as much as 60% of investment outlays and jobs in the KSSE). At the moment, companies operating in the zone employ 44,000 people, including 26,000 in the automotive sector.

In 2011 the KSSE will also revisit an earlier plan to create and industrial park near Zywiec.
