LSSE looks to solid 2011, will add new sites

The Lodz Special Economic Zone (LSSE) plans to secure 20 new investment projects this year, helped by the addition of new attractive sites and PLN 4.5m (approx. €1.2m) worth of investments in underground and transport infrastructure at some of its sub-zones. In 2010 the LSSE attracted 25 projects, an all-time high, with total pledged value of PLN 800m (€206m), up by 14% compared with 2008, and expected to create 1,600 new jobs.

Next month the zone will formally ask the Ministry of Economy to approve a fresh expansion of its territory, to include 11.5 hectares of land bought from the Agricultural Land Agency (ANR). The land, in Lucmierz near Zgierz, is located near the A2 motorway, making it an attractive site for potential investors. Furthermore, the LSSE is in talks about acquiring a similarly-sized plot in Lodz. And the zone is about to initiate steps aimed at creating hubs for companies from the ceramic tiles and white-goods sectors.

At present the LSSE consists of 43 sub-zones with total area of nearly 1,200 hectares, which are home to more than 130 investors.
