Poland exceeds by 30% EU funds absorption target for 2010

In 2010 the Ministry of Regional Development approved a record PLN 35.7bn (approx. €9.1bn) worth of investment expenditures in projects co-financed from EU funds, preliminary figures show. This means that the ministry exceeded its own target by PLN 8.7bn (€2.2bn), or almost 33%.

By 31 December, the ministry concluded 50,459 agreements with beneficiaries for EU and governmental grants available under the EU's 2007-2013 budget perspective, worth a combined PLN 223.4bn or €57.1bn (the figures cover the period since the programmes were launched in 2008). The value of EU aid arising from these agreements is PLN 154.4n (€39.5bn), which represents 58.1% of the total allocation for the 2007-2013 period.

One important factor behind the strong result was improved handling of the process by regional governments.

Absorption of EU funds is to accelerate further in 2011. The ministry’s official target is PLN 40bn (€10.1bn) worth of approved expenditures.
