IPO activity on WSE back to pre-crisis levels in 2010

The Warsaw Stock Exchange (WSE) had a good 2010, strengthening its position as the main financial centre in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), statistics on initial public offerings (IPO) show.

There were 34 IPOs on the Warsaw Stock Exchange last year, up sharply from 13 in 2009 but also better than in the strong 2008 (33), and representing 6.4% of all IPOs in Europe last year. This took the number of listed companies to 400. Together with debuts on NewConnect, the alternative market, the number of IPOs in Warsaw in 2010 was 120, much higher than on the London Stock Exchange or Deutsche Bourse.

The combined value of the new offerings, at PLN 15.4bn (approx. €3.9bn), was at its second-highest level ever.

Also, there were numerous of IPOs from foreign companies, whose number now stands at 27, prompting plans to create a separate index for Ukrainian firms.
