Hamilton Sundstrand finalises PZL-Wroclaw takeover

2010-12-31

Hamilton Sundstrand (HS), the US manufacturer of aircraft systems, on 30 December completed the acquisition of 100% of shares in PZL Wroclaw (formerly PZL Hydral), a state-owned maker of fuel and hydraulic systems for airplanes and helicopters. The firm will be renamed Hamilton Sundstrand Wroclaw.

HS pledged to invest at least PLN 65m (approx. €16.3m) in PZL Wroclaw over the next five years, which is expected to lead to a doubling of revenues at the Polish company. In the words of Wojciech Dabrowski, director of the Industrial Development Agency (ARP), a unit of the Ministry of the Treasury, the acquisition by HS will guarantee further expansion and modernisation of PZL-Wroclaw’s manufacturing facilities and open up new markets for the company. At present the Polish firm employs about 500 people.

Mike Dumais, Vice President of Operations at Hamilton Sundstrand, said that the takeover would round out the firm’s capabilities with expertise in the design and production of systems for the aviation and outer space sectors, and put it in a strong position to expand in the region.

HS, which is part of United Technologies, employs 7,000 people in Poland, where it owns (directly or indirectly) several production plants. In November it received the green light for a PLN 100m (€25m) factory of aircraft engine parts and an R&D centre in Rzeszow, in the local sub-zone of Euro-Park Mielec Special Economic Zone.
