Four cities create/upgrade industrial parks to woo investors

The authorities of Siemianowice Slaskie (Slaskie voivodship), a town at the heart of the Upper Silesian Metropolis, have retained a contractor to create a business park of between 10 and 30 hectares to attract investors to the area and boost job creation. The project is scheduled to get underway in the first quarter of 2011 and is expected to start operations in two to three years. Siemianowice mayor Jacek Guzy said that the park will offer all necessary infrastructure and good transport links.

Meanwhile, the authorities of Przemysl (Podkarpackie voivodship) announced a tender for the installation of underground infrastructure at its own, 42-hectare industrial park in a PLN 23m (approx. €5.8m) project financed in over 80% from EU funds. Insufficient infrastructure is cited as the main reason for the park’s failure to attract a single investor since its creation in 2006.

Also, Lubuski Park Przemyslowy, an industrial park near Zielona Gora (Lubuskie voivodship), has just received a PLN 8.5m (€2.1m) EU grant to help finance the installation of underground utilities (e.g. water supply and fibre-optic cable), to boost its attractiveness for investors.

And the government of the Mazowieckie voivodship has allocated PLN 61.6m (€15.4m) from its pool of EU funds towards a PLN 195m (€148.8m) project to build and equip Plock Industrial and Technology Park, a 200-hectare hub for business process outsourcing (BPO), shared service centre (SSC) and R&D investments. The Park, which is scheduled to be opened by the end of 2013, is divided into areas specially designated for investors from sectors such as chemicals, pharmaceuticals, paper, rubber, varnishes and paints, textiles, plastics or automotive. Much of the necessary underground infrastructure is already in place.
