EIU: GDP growth in Poland to slow to 3.4% in 2011

The Polish economy will expand by 3.8% this year, but growth will slow to 3.4% in 2011, according to Global Outlook, a new report from the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

The EIU notes that Poland is benefitting from its relatively lesser reliance on exports (as compared with e.g. the Czech Republic or Slovakia) and foreign currency debt. However, it will be some time before the country’s economy returns to pre-crisis levels of expansion, with high unemployment acting as a major brake on GDP growth, the EIU reckons.

Economic growth in most countries and regions is predicted to weaken next year. The global economy is forecast to grow by 3.8% in 2011, the eurozone’s by 0.9% and the US by 2.2%.
