Toshiba scales back investments at Kobierzyce plant

Toshiba Television Central Europe has cut by PLN 11m (approx. €2.8m), to PLN 156m (€39.1m), the planned investments at its factory of TV sets and radio receivers in Kobierzyce (Dolnoslaskie voivodship), the Government Information Centre (CIR) announced on 14 December.

The company attributed the decision to difficult economic conditions and the need to reduce prices to protect sales. The scaling down of investments means that fewer direct jobs will be created than previously announced (725, compared to over 1,000; plus around 900 indirectly), and completion of the project has been pushed back by three years, until the end of 2013.

As a result, the Japanese firm has had its state aid grant cut to PLN 21.3m (€5.3m) from over PLN 27m (€6.8m).
