Nokia Siemens Networks to locate large service delivery centre in Poland?

Nokia Siemens Networks (NTS), a leading provider of network and telecom solutions, is considering Poland as a location for a Global Service Delivery Centre, Stephen Cullen, Head of Global Services Sales, Europe at NTS told Puls Biznesu. A final decision is expected in the first quarter of 2011. If approved, the project would create between 2,000 and 4,000 new jobs at NTS’ Polish operations within 12 to 20 months, doubling or even trebling its current Polish headcount of around 2,000.

NTS has global service delivery centres e.g. in Portugal, India or Brazil. Poland is reportedly the only country seriously considered for the new investment, but much depends on the needs of the company’s customers. When the project is given the formal go-ahead, NTS will start looking for a specific location in the country.

The Polish facility would serve customers on the local market as well as in parts of Europe. NTS might also move some of the operations currently performed in India to the new centre in Poland. Locally, the company is betting on the growing maturity of Poland’s telecom sector, which is expected to increase demand for its services, and is eyeing new opportunities in the utilities sector.

At the moment NTS employs 2,000 people in Poland, including 500 at its Polish HQ and service delivery centre in Warsaw and 1,500 at a software development centre in Wroclaw. The company is also in the middle of acquiring Motorola’s unit in Krakow, as part of its global takeover of certain wireless network infrastructure assets of the US telecom concern.
