Lotte to invest €200m in production facilities in Poland?

Lotte Group, a Japanese industrial conglomerate that in September acquired Poland’s oldest confectionery maker E. Wedel, is planning further substantial investments in manufacturing capacity in the country, Rzeczpospolita has learnt.

According to the newspaper, Lotte is about to approve a plan to build five factories in Poland at a combined cost of €200m. On 9 November the company’s representatives met with officials from the Ministry of Economy to discuss potential forms of state aid. They reportedly declared an intention to invest €70m in the initial phase of the project. The five factories would be located in one area, in close proximity to each other.

At the time of the E. Wedel acquisition, Lotte said that the deal played a key role in its European strategy, with Poland seen as a centre for European expansion.

Lotte is active mainly in various parts of Asia, as well as in the US and Russia.
