Poland sees improvement in managerial/professional hiring trends

Fifty-four percent companies in Poland declare that they are currently recruiting at managerial and professional level, up from 46% three months earlier, according to Global Snapshot, a quarterly global survey of hiring and firing trends by Antal International, an international executive recruitment firm. Just 13% of the surveyed firms said they were shedding jobs, lower than in any other country of the Eastern Europe & Eurasia region and well below the regional average of 23%.

Furthermore, 53% of firms in Poland expect to add new jobs in the fourth quarter of the year, the highest result in two years, with just 13% of the surveyed firms anticipating job cuts (versus a regional average of 28%).

Despite the improvement, the current and anticipated hiring levels in Poland were below regional averages, which were 57% and 60%, respectively. A particularly high level of optimism was recorded in Slovakia, where 76% of the surveyed companies said they were hiring while 72% expected to be doing so in Q4. In the Czech Republic the percentages were 68% and 61%, respectively, while in Hungary they came in at a dismal 27% and 28%.

Even so, the findings provide further evidence of recovery in the Polish labour market, according to Antal International.

The sectors of the Polish economy with the highest level of current hiring are engineering (71%), automotive (59%) and pharmaceuticals (58%). With respect to outlook for the coming quarter, IT (software) had the highest percentage of firms expecting to add jobs (61%), followed by engineering (60%) and telecoms (58%).

The latest survey was carried out in September and October 2010. It is based on interviews with line and HR managers at 9,117 companies, professional partnerships and financial institutions in 52 countries.
