Honeywell to invest over PLN 300m to build two plants in Poland?

2010-10-21

Honeywell, the US industrial group, aims to build two factories in Poland, an investment that would create at least 300 jobs, Puls Biznesu has learnt. The plants would make turbochargers and brake pads. Honeywell is reportedly looking for suitable sites in Western Poland, with Nowa Sol (Lubuskie voivodship) thought to be among the frontrunners.

But locations in Slovakia and Romania are also competing for the investment. Poland’s chances crucially depend on whether the US group succeeds in obtaining an EU grant from the Polish government to help finance it. It plans to apply for support from a special pool of funds earmarked for “investments of high importance to the national economy”, which suggests that each of the two projects is worth at least PLN 160m (approx. €40m) and is expected to create minimally 150 jobs (these being the eligibility criteria). A new call for applications is to be announced next month, and new grants are to be awarded early next year.

According to unofficial information, the projects are extremely highly advanced technologically.

At the moment Honeywell’s Polish operation employs 100 people at five sites.
