Statutory minimum wage to rise by 5.2% in 2011


The government on 5 October approved a 5.2% increase in the statutory minimum wage effective from 1 January 2011, to PLN 1,386 (€350). It thus acted on the advice of the Finance Ministry and ignored a joint recommendation from representatives of trade unions and employers, who last month proposed a more generous, 6.9% rise, to PLN 1,408 (€355). Prime Minister Donald Tusk explained that a higher increase could have a negative impact on public finances.
