UNCTAD: Poland ranks 12th among top global locations for FDI
2010-09-09
Poland moved up one notch to 12th in the world in a global ranking of top host countries for foreign direct investment as perceived by transnational companies and investment promotion agencies, according to an annual survey by UN Conference for Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
Poland is the only EU country from the CEE region among the top 20 (the top five nations are China, India, Brazil, the US and Russia).
According to UNCTAD, the findings of the World Investment Prospect Survey 2010-2012 point to a recovery in global FDI flows in 2010 and further growth in 2011 and 2012, with e.g. a clear improvement in perceptions of the international investment climate. Importantly for Poland, the survey also documents a shift in transnational companies’ geographical focus to developing and transition economies, whose role in their investment strategies has grown in the aftermath of the crisis.
UNCTAD forecasts that global FDI flows will rise slightly to $1.2 trillion (€944bn) in 2010, before accelerating to $1.3-1.5 trillion (€1.02-1.18 trillion) in 2011, and will return to pre-crisis levels in 2012, coming in at $1.6-2 trillion (€1.26-1.57 trillion).
