Number of national economy entities up by 2.4% in H1

At the end of June 2010 there were just over 3.83 million national economy entities registered in the National Official Business Register (REGON) in Poland, i.e. 2.4% more than at the end of December 2009, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS).
In the first half of the year almost 208,000 of new entities were registered, an increase of 32.2% in comparison to the corresponding period of 2009. At the same time, the number of entities deleted from the REGON register fell by 26.6% y-o-y to less than 122,000.
The number of natural persons conducting economic activity, which is the most numerous group, amounted to nearly 2.89m (versus 2.82m at the end of December 2009) whereas there were about 564,500 companies (vs. 553,300), 17,181 co-operatives (vs. 17,193) and 262 state owned enterprises (vs. 289). Most economic entities operated in the following sectors: trade & repair of motor vehicles, construction and manufacturing.
