World Bank (again) lifts growth forecast for Poland
2010-03-12
The World Bank made a second upward revision in just over a month of its forecast for Poland’s GDP growth in 2010. The bank’s senior economist Kaspar Richter said on 11 March that it now expected the Polish economy to expand by 2.5-3% this year, up from 2.2% in its
Global Economic Prospects 2010 report released on 3 February. That is because the bank believes that the growth rate observed in the fourth quarter of 2009 – i.e. 3.1% of GDP – would be maintained throughout 2010, and that growth would be further supported by a mild recovery in the EU as a whole, where economic growth is anticipated to reach 1%.
At the same time, the bank stressed the need for public finance reform in Poland to ensure sustainable growth in the years ahead.
