Polish employers more optimistic about jobs outlook
2010-03-11
Twenty percent of Polish firms expect to hire new workers in the second quarter of 2010, while 7% anticipate job cuts, according to the
Manpower Employment Outlook Survey, an international quarterly study by the US employment services firm. This compares to 15% and 11%, respectively, in the previous quarter. At the same time, 71% of the surveyed companies said they did not plan any changes in employment levels in Q2, the same as in Q1.
As a result, the net balance of expectations improved to an upbeat +13 points, the best result in more than a year. By way of comparison, in the Czech Republic the balance was -5 points, in Hungary -3 points and in Romania, -7 points.
All 10 economic sectors covered by the study showed a positive balance of employment expectations, led by the public sector (+21 points) and wholesale and retail trade (+20 points). The smallest anticipated gain, in agriculture and in finance, insurance, real estate and business services, was still a solid +8 points.
The Polish leg of the survey was conducted between 14 and 27 January on a representative sample of 750 companies.
