Expansion of Mielec zone to bring PLN 815m in investments, 2,300 jobs
2010-03-07
The government has approved the enlargement of the Mielec Special Economic Zone through the addition of more than 63 hectares of land in Lublin and Rzeszow, lifting the zone’s total area to 1,062 hectares.
The decision – expected to become law on 15 March – will clear the way for some major, recently-announced investments, worth an estimated PLN 815m (approx. €208m) between them and expected to create about 2,300 new jobs in the zone and a further 580 (indirectly) outside it. The largest project is by Hamilton Sundstrand, a US manufacturer of aircraft systems, which plans to invest PLN 114.2m (€29.1m) to build a factory and an R&D unit in Rzeszow. The facility would employ approximately 400 people, including about 75 in research and development, and could come online around 2015.
