PAIiIZ in negotiations over €500 worth of FDI projects from China
2010-03-05
The Polish Information and Foreign Investment Agency (PAIiIZ) is in talks with eight Chinese investors regarding potential FDI projects worth nearly €500m between them,
Rzeczpospolita has learnt. Six are to be finalised by the end of the year.
The investors represent sectors such as chemicals, electronics, machinery, clothing or nuclear technology. There are also two projects from the automotive industry, although these are at a less advanced stage.
If fulfilled, the plans would represent a major success for the Agency, which has identified China as one of three strategic new sources of foreign investment, along with India and Russia (although Western Europe and the United States are expected to remain dominant in the near term). In 2009 it secured five Chinese projects, but with the combined value of only PLN 38m (approx. €9.7m).
According to PAIiIZ director Slawomir Majman, this is only the beginning of the road. The Expo 2010 in Shanghai – due to open in May – has already generated a positive stimulus, and business ties between the two countries should strengthen further thanks to an improvement in political relations.
