MAN to shift more bus production to Poland
2010-02-24
MAN, the German bus and truck maker, has initiated steps to move some manufacturing operations from its bus factory in Plauen in Germany to Starachowice (Swietokrzyskie voivodship), according to union officials at the Polish plant.
The Starachowice facility would assume the production of bus ‘skeletons’, resulting in the loss of 70 jobs at the Plauen factory (with 60 workers to be offered other jobs at the plant).
The plan reportedly drew sharp opposition from IG Metall, the German engineering union. MAN explained that products made in Starachowice offered superior corrosion resistance.
