Poland ranks fourth in Eastern Europe on trends in managerial/professional hiring

Forty-eight percent companies in Poland declare that they are currently recruiting at managerial and professional level, giving it fourth place among the countries of the Eastern Europe & Eurasia region, according to
Global Snapshot January 2010, the latest edition of a quarterly global survey of hiring and firing trends by Antal International, an international executive recruitment firm.
The result represents a drop of five points compared with three months earlier, and is broadly in line with the global average (49%). Higher levels of hiring were noted in Russia (71%), the Czech Republic (57%) and Romania (55%). At the same time, the percentage of companies in Poland shedding managerial and executive staff fell sharply from 28% to 15%, significantly below the global average of 28% and one of the lowest percentages among the countries covered.
The sectors with the highest level of current hiring are telecoms (67%), FMCG (64%) and pharmacy (60%). With respect to outlook for the coming quarter, IT (software) had the highest percentage of firms expecting to add jobs (80%), followed by telecoms (69%) and pharmacy (62%). The biggest amount of lay-offs are expected in the FMCG sector (37% declare reductions) and telecoms (31%).
The latest survey was carried out between 1 and 31 December 2009. It is based on interviews with 6,151 companies in 30 major markets in Western and Eastern Europe, Africa, India, China and the US. In Poland the sample consisted of 820 companies.
