Expansion of Walbrzych zone to bring PLN 300m in investments, 2,850 jobs
2010-02-15
The government has approved the enlargement of the Walbrzych Special Economic Zone (WSSE) by 15.7 hectares, lifting its total area to just over 1,667 hectares. New sites will be added in the following sub-zones: Dzierzoniow, Jelcz-Laskowice, Nysa, Wroclaw, Bielawa and Rawicz.
The decision – expected to become law in late February – paves the way for several recently-announced, major investments. They include IBM’s shared services centre in Wroclaw, or Autoliv’s factory of car airbags in Jelcz-Laskowice, for example.
The government estimates that the enlargement will enable investments worth a combined PLN 302.6m (approx. €74m). They are expected to create 2,852 new jobs.
The slow pace of approval of zone expansions is seen by many as a factor contributing to the observed drop in investment activity in the special economic zones, in addition to the economic downturn.
