GdF Suez to invest big in conventional and renewable projects in Poland
2010-02-12
GdF Suez, the French energy group, plans to significantly expand its conventional power generation capacity in Poland in the years ahead, even as it continues to invest heavily in renewable energy projects in the country, Grzegorz Gorski, CEO of GdF Suez Energia Polska, indicated in an interview with wnp.pl.
He revealed that the conventional units were currently at the planning stage and construction work could begin next year. GdF Suez estimates the associated investments at hundreds of millions of zlotys. Some of these projects will probably be realised in partnership with other companies, and talks about such alliances are underway. Meanwhile, in July the French group aims to initiate the construction of a “very big” biomass-based plant in Poland. Also this year, GdF Suez plans to launch a large wind farm in Jarogniew and Moltowo (Zachodniopomorskie voivodship) with combined generating capacity of 20 MW. More wind energy projects in Poland are to follow in the coming years.
