PLN 23.8bn central budget deficit in 2009

In 2009 the central budget closed with a deficit of just under PLN 23.8bn (approx. €5.5bn), which represents 87.5% of the official plan, according to estimates from the Ministry of Finance.
State budget revenues amounted to PLN 274.4bn (€63.4bn) last year, and expenditures equalled PLN 298.2bn (€68.9bn), which translates into 100.5% and 99.4% of the plan, respectively.
The amended 2009 budget bill provided for a deficit of PLN 27.2bn (€6.3bn), up from PLN 18.2bn (€4.2bn) in the original bill.
By way of comparison, in 2008 the central budget deficit totalled PLN 24.3bn (€6.9bn), which represented 89.9% of the projected sum.
