Planned lay-offs down at end-December

At the end of December 2009, 338 employers in Poland were declaring plans to carry out mass lay-offs “in the near future”, involving a total of 35,000 workers, according to data from the Central Statistical Office (GUS). This is down from 361 and 36,900, respectively, a year earlier.
Of the total number of jobs at risk, 21,300 were in the private sector and 13,700 in the public sector. At the end of 2008 the vast majority of threatened jobs (34,900) were in the private sector.
