Global CEO survey suggests further job losses in Poland
2010-01-29
CEOs of large companies in Poland are less optimistic on average than their counterparts in the world as regards the outlook for hiring, according to the 13
th Annual Global CEO Survey by PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), launched to coincide with the World Economic Forum in Davos on 27 January.
The report shows a negative balance of expectations among Polish CEOs with respect to hiring over the next 12 months. In sectors from manufacturing through construction through services, more executives expect to be cutting jobs in the course of the year than to be adding them. This compares to 40% of optimists to 25% of pessimists globally.
According to Prof. Witold Orlowski, chief economic adviser to PwC’s Polish unit, the results suggest that the unemployment rate in Poland will continue to rise in the months ahead, but at a slow rate.
The survey was carried out among chief executives of 1,198 large companies in 52 countries, between September and November 2009.
