Employers to pay new contributions for two categories of workers
2009-12-31
Companies which employ persons working in special (dangerous) conditions, such as pilots, steel workers or train drivers – a group of about 300,000 people – will as of 2010 be required to pay a special monthly contribution equal to 1.5% of these workers’ salaries into a newly-created Bridging Pensions Fund (FEP). Contrary to initial plans, the extra premiums will be paid not only for persons eligible to draw bridging pensions, but all workers born after 1948, meaning that the total cost for employers will be higher than assumed. By introducing the new Fund, the Labour Ministry wants to make employers share some of the cost of bridging pensions.
The Ministry estimated that under the previous (narrower) version of the law, FEP would collect about PLN 65m (approx. €15.6m) in contributions per year.
Also, as of 2010 employers are required to pay accident insurance premiums (between 0.67% and 3.33% of salary) for all workers employed on the basis of agency, contract-job (zlecenie) and comparable service agreements, regardless of whether the work is performed at employer premises or not (previously, the requirement applied only in the previous case).
