World Bank approves $4.5bn loan programme for Poland
2009-07-02
The World Bank on 30 June approved a new five-year Country Partnership Strategy (CPS) for Poland, which envisages lending support worth up to $4.5bn (approx. €3.2bn) for the country over 2009-2013, as well as policy advice.
The new lending programme will fund “projects that build on Poland’s relatively strong macroeconomic fundamentals and encourage reforms that will improve the quality of public finances and support a private-sector led recovery from the global financial crisis”, the Bank said in a statement. The new strategy is to support the country in areas such as healthcare, education, social protection, transport and ways to improve the business environment.
Thomas Laursen, World Bank country manager for Poland and the Baltic countries, stressed that the Bank can play an important role in supporting Poland through the times of the crisis but also beyond.
