New sports centre to appear in Koszalin

A sports centre is to be built on Sniadeckich Street in Koszalin. The Ministry of Sports and Tourism has awarded the city a PLN 8m (€1.8m) grant to finance the project, PAP reported.
According to the design for the project prepared by the architectural studio Archimedia, the centre will be a three-storey structure providing total floor space of approximately 15,000 m². It will feature a playing court surrounded by stands holding up to around 3,000 spectators, booths for journalists and TV crews, pool and table tennis halls and sanitary facilities. In addition, the centre will boast such amenities as a conference room, a fitness club, a sauna, a Jacuzzi, as well as space for cafes and restaurants. The centre will also include a car park with room for close to 300 vehicles. The entire undertaking will require outlays in the region of PLN 54m (€12.1m), PLN 22m (€4.9m) of which will be allocated out of EU coffers and another PLN 8m (€1.9m) contributed by the Ministry of Sport and Tourism. The remaining cash will be assigned out of the budgets of both the town of Koszalin and Koszalin University of Technology, on whose campus the arena will be built. The college wants to apply for a PLN 9m (€2m) subsidy from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education – the application should be reviewed at the end of May or the beginning of June this year.
