Poland to receive extra €0.9bn in EU funds up front
2009-04-21
The European Commission has decided to provide extra advance payments to member states equal to 2% of their allocation of structural funds, as part of efforts to support economic growth in the European Union, the Ministry of Regional Development announced on 20 April. The Commission will frontload an additional €868m in structural funds for Poland by the end of June.
So far this year, the country has received advance payments worth €1.754bn on its 2007-2013 allocation, which is worth €67bn. According to government forecasts, by the end of the year the country will have invested €16.8bn from the 2007-2013 funds.
Accelerated spending of EU funds is a major part of the government’s Stability and Growth Plan outlined earlier this year, intended to sustain economic growth in the face of the global downturn.
