According to preliminary figures, the sales of Praktiker, the DIY retail chain, have increased from €2.28bn to €2.33bn in the first nine months of 2005. In total, the sales of the Metro Group’s Praktiker division had increased by 2.4% in comparison with the corresponding period of 2004. Sales growth picked up in the third quarter. Praktiker’s like-for-like sales in Germany came in at the level of the first nine months of the previous year. In the third quarter Praktiker achieved a 0.5% increase in German like-for-like sales. International business continued to develop well. Sales grew from €0.51m in the first nine months to €0.57m, representing an increase of 10.9%. By the end of the quarter the store’s network comprised 342 outlets, 277 in Germany and 65 belonging to international operations. In Poland, there are 17 stores in the Praktiker network.
