LFS unemployment rate at 10.1% in Q4


The unemployment rate measured according to the Labour Force Survey (LFS) amounted to 10.1% in the fourth quarter of 2012, up by 0.2 p.p. compared with the previous quarter and 0.4 p.p. higher than in the corresponding period of 2011, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS).

During the analysed period, the total number of people out of work stood at just under 1.76 million people, which represented an increase of 39,000 over Q3 and of 75,000 versus Q4 2011.

Meanwhile, the employment rate amounted to 50.4% in Q4 2012, down 0.3 p.p. in relation to the preceding quarter and up 0.1 p.p. over a year earlier. At the same time, the number of economically inactive persons increased by 57,000 compared with Q3, to 13.66 million people. On a yearly basis this constituted a decrease of 73,000, however. As a result, the economic activity rate, at 56%, was 0.2 p.p. lower than in Q3 but 0.3 p.p. higher than in Q4 2011.
