The registered unemployment rate stood at 13.4% at the end of December, the Central Statistical Office (GUS) reported. This is up by 0.5 p.p. over November and 0.9 p.p. higher than in the corresponding month of the previous year.

In the analysed period, nearly 2.14 million Poles were registered as unemployed, an increase of 78,700 in relation to one month earlier and of 154,100 compared with December 2011.

The highest unemployment rates were noted in the voivodships of Warminsko-Mazurskie (21.2%), Zachodniopomorskie (18.1%), Kujawsko-Pomorskie (17.9%), Podkarpackie (16.3%), and Swietokrzyskie and Lubuskie (15.8%). The lowest rates were recorded in Wielkopolskie (9.9%), Mazowieckie (10.8%), Slaskie (11.1%), and Malopolskie (11.5%).

At the same time, GUS data showed a marked decline in the number of job offers submitted by employers to labour offices as compared with November, though on a yearly basis the figure represented a small increase (35,700 offers, compared with 49,100 the month before and 35,100 in December 2011).
