Randstad: employee sentiment shows resilience amid economic slowdown

Poles are gloomy about the domestic economy and its prospects, but remain fairly confident about their own job situation, according to the new edition of the Randstad Work Monitor, an international quarterly survey by the global employment firm.

The study, carried out in October-November 2012, shows that the proportion of Poles feeling they are at a high or moderate risk of job loss during the next six months, at about 30%, remains more or less where it has been since the survey was first conducted in mid-2010. Also, 70% of the respondents described the financial situation of their employers as “good” and 60% thought it would improve further this year. Three in five said they expected to receive a pay rise in 2013, and nearly one in two, a bonus. Furthermore, Poles are more open than most to switching jobs. The country’s score on Randstad’s Mobility Index, which reflects perceived likelihood that the respondent will be working for a different employer within the next six months, amounted to 107, compared with an EU average of 98 points. The percentage of those actively seeking new employment also remains unchanged since mid-2010, at 12-13%, i.e. slightly above an UE average of 11%.

That is despite 79% of the respondents in Poland describing the economic situation in the country as bad and with just 28% predicting an improvement in 2013.

The survey is based on interviews with samples of minimally 400 respondents in each of the 29 participating countries in Europe, the Americas, Asia and Australia. The respondents are aged 18-64 and working a minimum of 24 hours per week in a paid job (excluding the self-employed). The latest wave of the survey was conducted from 18 October to 6 November.
