MAN moving more bus production to Poland

MAN, the German manufacturer of buses and commercial vehicles, is in the process of relocating part of the production of Neoplan Skyliner, its top luxury touring coach, from Germany to Starachowice (Swietokrzyskie voivodship), it emerged on 14 December.

The Starachowice plant will make semi-finished bodies of the new generation Skyliner, with first units expected to roll off its production lines in April 2013. They will be finished at MAN’s factory in Plauen, Germany.

The project means the Starachowice plant will avoid job cuts. There will only be about 90 job losses through natural attrition, instead of an initial plan of 200, and the company has committed itself to maintaining staff levels at minimally 1,420.

The news comes two months after a similar announcement from Volvo, reinforcing Poland’s image as an important hub of bus production.
