Latvian ceramic materials maker acquires Polish peer, initiates €15m capex programme

2012-12-11

Lode SIA, a leading manufacturer of ceramic building materials in the Baltic states, a few weeks ago paid PLN 55m (approx. €13.3m) for FCB Waclaw Jopek, a troubled Polish maker of ceramic roofing tiles, and has already initiated a modernisation programme that will lift production capacity at FCB’s two smaller plants by 40% and upgrade its biggest factory at a combined cost of about €15m, it emerged.

Zygmunt Tylak, General Manager of Lode Polska, told Puls Biznesu that a €1.4m modernisation drive at FCB’s plant in Sierakowice (Slaskie voivodship) had got underway and that a more thorough revamp, worth €2-3m, would follow next year in Paczkow (Opolskie voivodship), which will bring the annual capacity of both plants to 140,000 tons of finished products each, from 100,000 at the moment. Meanwhile, FCB’s largest plant in Radziejowice (Mazowieckie voivodship), which is currently idle after a failed investment programme undertaken by the previous owner, is to be modernised at a cost of €10m to take its capacity to 200,000 finished products a year, including more modern and lucrative ones.

In 2007 Lode SIA was acquired by a consortium led by the Greek industrialist George Tsatsos and private equity funds managed by Capital International.
