Lodz zone expansion to bring PLN 600m in new projects

2012-12-07

The government is about to approve a 21-hectare expansion of the Lodz Special Economic Zone (LSSE) effective from 31 January 2013, thus clearing the way for seven proposed investments by manufacturing firms worth nearly PLN 600m (approx. €145m), a spokesman for the zone said on 5 December. The projects will bring 1,545 new jobs and protect 1,145 existing ones.

Five are by foreign investors. Thus Hutchinson, a large maker of rubber, thermoplastic elastomer and polymer products for the automotive and other sectors, will expand one of its plants in Lodz, in a project worth PLN 75m (€18.2m) and expected to create 250 new jobs; Infosys BPO aims to add 260 new jobs at its service centre in Lodz after a PLN 2.5m (€0.6m) move to an expanded location; Lek, a unit of pharma group Sandoz, will spend PLN 125m (€30.3m) to build a pharmaceutical factory in Strykow (Lodzkie voivodship), bringing at least 130 jobs; Sponcel, a subsidiary of Arix Spa of Italy, a maker of household cleaning products, will invest PLN 45m (€10.9m) to build a factory of cellulose sponges in Kleszczow (Lodzkie), creating 35 jobs; and Meyer Tool, a supplier to the gas turbine engine industry, will invest PLN 20m (€4.8m) in a major capacity extension at its plant in Kalisz (Wielkopolskie), bringing 30 jobs.
