Ipsos: consumer confidence rallies in November


The Consumer Confidence Index (CCI) jumped by more than six points in November to stand at 78.2 points, its highest level since August, according to research conducted by Ipsos. The improvement comes after four consecutive months of declines.

All the component indicators of the CCI improved noticeably in November, led by the economic climate indicator, which gauges opinions about the domestic economy and outlook. It surged by 8.7 points to 64.6 points. The expectations indicator leapt by 8.3 points to 83.7. The willingness-to-buy indicator rose 4.5 points to 87.3, whereas the current indicator, which reflects sentiment about the present state of the economy and the financial situation of the respondent’s household, rose 4.1 points to 66.2.

The proportion of Poles who say things in the country are heading in a good direction rose from 17% to 24%, whereas those who think it is heading in a bad direction fell to 68% from 74%.

The number who say the economic situation in Poland has worsened over the past 12 months was 49%, down from 52%. And 7% thought it has improved, up from 4%.

The proportion of Poles expecting the financial situation of their household to improve over the coming year rose to 18% from 15%.

Furthermore, 15% of the respondents said that now was a good time for purchasing durable goods, up from 11% in October. And the number who think they will be able to make some savings during the next 12 months rose to 19% from 13%.

The CCI index is measured on a scale from 0 to 200. The latest survey was conducted between 8 and 17 November 2012 on a representative random-quota sample of 1,000 Poles aged 15 and above.
