LFS unemployment rate stays at 9.9% in Q3


The unemployment rate measured according to the Labour Force Survey (LFS) amounted to 9.9% in the third quarter of 2012, unchanged from the previous quarter and 0.6 p.p. higher than a year earlier, according to the Central Statistical Office (GUS).

During the analysed period, the total number of people out of work stood at just under 1.72 million, which represented an increase of 5,000 over Q2 and of 104,000 versus Q3 2011. Meanwhile, the employment rate amounted to 50.7%, up 0.4 p.p. in relation to the preceding quarter and 0.1 p.p. higher than a year earlier. At the same time, the number of economically inactive persons decreased by 113,000, or 0.8%, compared with Q2, to just under 13.6 million people. As a result, the economic activity rate rose to 56.2%, compared with 55.8% in both Q2 2012 and Q3 2011.
