Production of Fiat Panda Classic in Tychy about to come to an end

Fiat’s car plant in Tychy (Slaskie voivodship) will stop making Fiat Panda Classic cars, one of its primary products, by the end of 2012, due to homologation issues, Fiat Auto Poland announced. The news confirms what had been known informally for several months. (A new version of the car is being made by Fiat’s factory in Pomigliano d’Arco near Naples.)

It is not clear whether the resulting reduction of output will be made up for.

The Tychy factory has put out 2.15 million Fiat Panda Classic cars since their production was launched there in 2003. It is its second most important product after Fiat 500.

In 2012 the plant expects to produce 350,000 vehicles, down 25% over 2011.
