Advent acquires Polish supermarket group

Advent International, the global buyout firm, on 30 October announced the success of its takeover bid for Eko Holding, a Polish supermarket group based in Wroclaw. Advent purchased nearly 98% of shares in Eko Holding, well above the 60% minimum acceptance level, thanks to an improved offer unveiled on 29 October that Mid Europa Partners, the other suitor for Eko, decided not to counter.

Tamas Nagy, Partner at Advent International, said that Advent planned to focus on restructuring and further development of Eko’s supermarket stores, both organically and through acquisitions. The new owner intends to repurchase the 2% remaining shares in Eko and delist the company from the Warsaw Stock Exchange.

Eko Holding operates 305 Eko stores, approximately 800 Rabat franchise stores and 165 Jasmin franchise drugstores. It also owns Polska Grupa Drogeryjna, a wholesaler of household chemicals and cosmetics.
