Lufthansa to move more jobs to Krakow?

Lufthansa, the national carrier for Germany and the largest airline in Europe, plans to relocate 1,100 administrative jobs from Germany to lower-cost locations starting from the first quarter of 2013, with its Krakow office among the likely beneficiaries, Stefan Lauer, head of human resources at Lufthansa, indicated in an interview with the group’s internal magazine Lufthanseat. His comments were reported by news agency DPA on 26 October.

Talks between Lufthansa’s management and its works council are already in progress, and while few details were revealed, Mr. Lauer noted that the current scope of activities of Lufthansa offices in Krakow, Bangkok and Mexico City would be expanded to include human resources and commercial tasks.

Lufthansa is in the middle of a major cost-cutting drive designed to improve its financial performance, which has been hurt by fierce competition from budget airlines from Europe and Asia and by weakness in the global economy.
