Netto to open new logistics facility to aid eastward expansion

2012-10-05

Netto, the Danish discount chain, will next year open a third distribution centre in Poland, to accommodate its fast-expanding store network in the country, Slawomir Nitek, Operations Director at Netto Polska, told Puls Biznesu.

The group currently has 257 outlets in Poland, and the store count is expected to reach 280 by the end of 2012. A further 50 openings are expected in 2013, and there are plans to accelerate the rate of expansion to 75 stores a year in the subsequent years, though this will depend on the level of market saturation. Much of this growth will be concentrated in the east. At present, most Netto stores are concentrated west of the Vistula, with no presence at all in Warsaw and in the three most easterly provinces of Podkarpackie, Lubelskie and Podlaskie (nor in Swietokrzyskie). The new distribution centre, in Kopytkowo (Pomorskie), close to the A1 motorway, will facilitate the planned eastward expansion. Netto’s main target are towns with more than 10,000 inhabitants. A first store in Warsaw is to be opened in early 2014.

Netto has emerged as the third-biggest chain in Poland only behind Biedronka and Lidl.
