Sandoz to build PLN 125m plant in central Poland?

Sandoz, the generics division of global pharma group Novartis, plans to build a pharmaceuticals factory in Strykow (Lodzkie voivodship), Puls Biznesu reported citing unofficial sources. The value of the project is PLN 125m (approx. €29.8m) and it is expected to bring 100 jobs. The plant would make medicines for the global market.

Lek, a manufacturing unit of Sandoz, which is responsible for the project, wants the facility to be part of the Lodz Special Economic Zone, a source close to the project told the paper.

Strykow is already home to a Sandoz production and logistics centre that supplies 5 billion tablets to the Polish as well as 45 foreign markets.

The group declined to comment. Ard van der Meij, head of Sandoz Polska, noted merely that Poland represented a highly important market for Sandoz, “both operationally and production-wise”.
