Norwegian bakery ingredients group acquires Polish distributor

Sonneveld Group, a Dutch supplier of bread improvers and mixers owned by Norway’s Orkla Food Ingredients (OFI), has agreed to buy 80% of shares in APC Hol-Pol, a major Polish importer and distributor of bakery and patisserie ingredients based in Skalmierzyce (Wielkopolskie voivodship). The transaction, which is subject to anti-trust clearance, is expected to be finalised in the fourth quarter of 2012. Sonneveld will also acquire full control over its Polish subsidiary Sonneveld Sp. z o.o., which has had a partnership with APC Hol-Pol since 2006.

In a statement, Sonneveld CEO/Managing Director Cees Hack said the acquisition would strengthen the company in several areas. It will create new growth opportunities in the distribution of bread ingredients, increase production capacity and extend its product range with patisserie ingredients that will be produced in Poland but can be sold in Western Europe.

OFI is the market leader in the bakery ingredients industry in the Nordic countries. The APC Hol-Pol deal is its third acquisition in Poland’s bread and patisserie ingredients distribution sector in the last six months, and a fourth one in the past two years. In February it bought Sebmag and in April, Kobo. In 2010 it acquired Merkur.
